In Germany, Sunday is a government and culturally mandated day of rest. Regardless of what errands you may have, Sonntag Ruhezeiten says you need to keep it chill. With only a nagging hangover or the week ahead to ponder, we thought you might appreciate some music picks to get you through the week. Inspired by his Sunday malaise and altruistic nature, Ben Sharoni is pleased to present – Sunday Edition.
Prins Thomas – Feel The Love – Diskomiks
Thomas Moen Hermansen (AKA Prins Thomas) an Oslo based producer and DJ, has made a name for himself by producing unique space-disco soundscapes, fusing together Jazz, Krautrock, Techno and House. In last April he released his 6th album, Ambitions, which is, now, being followed by a series of remixes from the same release. Diskomiks is an energetic and high-tempo interpretation that serves as a reminder for you to go out and dance more often.
Les Filles de Illghadad are a band from the Tuareg tribe in Niger. They come from a secluded community, and actually, their guitar player is the first-ever professional female Tuareg guitar player. Fatou Seidi Ghali, the band’s tende and guitar player, had to run away with her brother’s guitar and teach herself how to play it. You can find Tente II on Ambiance II, the second part of a trilogy produced at the Berlin night movement and label African Acid Is The Future. In it, you will dicover a variety of live recordings and remixes (you should check out Dauwd’s remix to Tente II).
Shigeto – Alley oop
Shigeto had a gig scheduled for the beginning of August in Berlin’s Gretchen right after the release of his latest EP. Unfortunately, it was cancelled, so I had to recompense somehow. He started off as a jazz drummer and he moved on to combine jazz with instrumental hip-hop in his contemporary work. Recently, he released a 4-track EP, Shigeto, on Vanity Press. The press release states that he “presses pause on the chameleon evolution of his sound over his career and focuses on the dancefloor”, which could be the reason why you would find yourself moving to his tunes.
Iglooghost – Lockii
This week’s journey ends with Gloo, a newly formed supergroup and label created by Iglooghost. After his 2017 album Ne? Wax Bloom and his 2018 EP Clear Tamei, the English producer, who released his first EP with Brainfeeder at the age of 18 (!), releases a new single that showcases his evolution. In this track, which is a preview for a wider project, he welcomes aboard Kai Whiston and BABii.
