Born in Minas Gerais – Brazil, the singer, songwriter and music producer Bia Ferreira has conquered hearts and souls around the country with “Cota Não é Esmola”, a song about anti-racist resistance that now reverberates on all spaces, from popular TV shows to street demonstrations against federal cuts in educational resources and against the law projects that aims to ban the racial quotas from the application process on universities.
Bia’s voice unsettles the racist, sexist and LGBTphobic structures of the society. Each one of her precise chords subvert class metrics. Her presence brings up the tone of a magic spirituality. She defines her music as MMP: (“Música de Mulher Preta”), which means “Black Women Music”.
She uses her work to educate, raise awareness and to share information about the struggling demands of the anti-racism social movement in Brazil.
