Peter Broderick

With an album named Partners, you would expect every track to be a collaboration between artists, but no, what Peter Broderick does with his new album is pay homage to the compositional heavyweight, John Cage, with forty-nine minutes of solo instrumental and voice works. The melancholy of the seven pieces is put in direct contrast of the albums title, creating a space the listener can fill with emotions not always found without Broderick’s sonic assistance.

Partners comes out at the tail end of several years’ worth of collaborations with artists including Nils Frahm and Gabriel Solomon (formerly of Yellow Swans) on the minimalist tastemaker record label, Erased Tapes.
